Occupation: Dr Crane is a Clinical Psychiatrist running his own practice.

Character Biography:
History: Niles Crane was born in Seattle to psychiatrist Hester Crane and police detective Martin Crane. His older brother, Frasier Crane, is also a psychiatrist, though they practise different psychoanalytic methods. Niles was a vulnerable and sensitive child, which led to him relying on his brother a lot. He grew up alongside his brother in the footsteps of his mother, attended Yale where he received an MD and then Ph.D. They parted ways when Frasier moved to Boston to start up a practise there. Niles Crane stayed in Seattle to form his own practise and thus had a better relationship with their father than his older brother (although relationship with both sons were strained after the death of Hester Crane, the parent the boys identified with best).Following Martin Crane's shooting at a robbery, causing his to be unable to take care of himself, Niles gave Frasier the responsibilty of taking him in upon his return to Seattle. He became jealous of his brother's popularity as a radio psychiatrist and frowns upon Frasier wasting his talent on what is essentially a talk show. Despite this jealousy, Niles' own practise was very successful and he was very well known and respected for his work which had been published in several medical journals.

How Others Perceive Your Character: People tend to view Niles as a very eccentric snob. Others don't tend to take him very seriously despite his impressive career history.
Beliefs, Convictions, Morals: He stands by his Hippocratic Oath, but in loose terms, eager to find a way around it if he believes his knowledge will help a friend. Has several pronounced neuroses which seem to hinder his social life, even sometimes resulting in severe panic attacks causing him to behave expressively borderline.
Reason(s) for Escaping to Canada: Niles hopes to "bring sanity to Canada" by opening a new private practice in Aternatopia. As well as this, he needed to get away from his latest ex, and his old life in general.
Their DHAs [Dreams, Hopes, and Aspirations] for Canada: A new start, a fresh slate, whatever you want to call it. To eventually have the best psychiatric clinic in all of Canada. And hopefully a place much more sanitary than back home. People wouldn't even think of wiping their chair clean at a café back in Seattle, can you believe it?!
